On-site/Virtual: Pipette Repair & Calibration Training Plan

On-site/Virtual: Pipette repair and calibration training includes instructional material presented via PowerPoint and hands-on practice. Trainers will demonstrate key repair and calibration techniques, followed by student application of these methods through guided practice.

Day#1:

  1. Powerpoint Training: parts diagrams, preventative maintenance, and pipette cleaning & evaluation.
  2. Hands-on demonstration & activity:
    • Cover general cleaning and evaluating pipettes.
    • Go through standard preventative maintenance for Rainin, Gilson, Eppendorf, Thermo, and VWR pipettes.
  3. Powerpoint Training: discuss repair tools and their specific uses.
  4. Hands-on demonstration & activity
    • Demonstrate how to use specific repair tools for Thermo, VWR, Eppendorf, Rainin and Gilson.
  5. Q & A
  6. Knowledge check - quiz related to the material provided above.

Day#2:

  1. Powerpoint Training: common model-specific repair and troubleshooting repair issues powerpoint training. This will cover mainly Gilson, Rainin and Eppendorf.
  2. Hands-on demonstration & activity
    • Demonstrate how to complete the model-specific repairs.
    • Cover how to determine if your repairs are effective or if you need to send a pipette back to a customer as unserviceable(unable to repair).
  3. Powerpoint Training: basics of pipette calibration(physics of pipetting, setting up your pipette calibration station and ergonomics of pipetting)
  4. Hands-On demonstration & activity
    • Cover how to set up your calibration station for pipette calibration.
    • Demonstrate the steps involved to calibrate a pipette
  5. Q & A
  6. Knowledge check - quiz related to the material provided above.

Day#3:

  1. Powerpoint Training: calibration tools, common issues when calibrating pipettes and tips & tricks for specific pipette models.
  2. Hands-on demonstration & activity
    • Walk through the different calibration tools and how to use them.
    • Cover the common issues experienced when calibrating pipettes.
    • Discuss and implement tips and tricks we use to calibrate difficult pipette models.
